Charted Accountant (Chartered Accountant) - A professional accountant of highest standing who has passed certain exams, achieved a certain amount of experience, reached a certain age and met all other statutory and licensing requirements of the country that has issued the charter. This Certification is the equivalent to the Certified Public Accountant certification given in the United States. Some institutes that issue this certification are the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, South African institute of Chartered Accountants, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland. In Canada each of the provinces: Alberta, Bermuda, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan have their own Institute of Chartered Accountants and issues their own certification.
