Below are business news updates from the City of Santa Clarita.
May 26,2010 – The City of Santa Clarita delivered checks for grants awarded to five City-based businesses through the Newhall small Business Grant Program. Created as part of the City's 21-Point Plan for Progress, the Newhall Redevelopment Small Business Grant Program awards individual grants up to $5,000 to 20 small businesses in the Newhall Redevelopment area.
May 25, 2010 -The City of Santa Clarita kicked off phase II of a multi-faceted media campaign aimed at Southern California businesses CEOs, CFOs, and other decision makers highlighting the benefits of expanding within or relocating to the growing Santa Clarita market.
The business attraction campaign aims to attract interest from California businesses through television, print and radio coverage in the Los Angeles market. Known for decades as a great place to live and play, Santa Clarita is building awareness among target markets as “the” place where companies do business
May 4, 2010 -In April 2010, the City of Santa Clarita issued 248 vouchers for Enterprise Zone-eligible hires for local businesses. This is the largest number of vouchers issued in a single month since the Santa Clarita Enterprise Zone began in 2007. Each voucher represents an Enterprise Zone-eligible individual hired by a local company.
Established on July 1, 2007, the Santa Clarita Enterprise Zone is designed to provide special California tax incentives to businesses. The City has issued more than 1,700 vouchers for the program since its designation, helping nearly 200 local businesses by providing tens-of-millions of dollars in potential tax saving benefits.
November 3, 2006 -Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the conditional designation of 23 new enterprise zones. This enables businesses located in these zones to receive a variety of California personal income tax, corporation franchise and income tax, and sales and use tax incentives. Businesses located in these zones can claim the following personal income and corporation franchise and income tax incentives:
- Credits for each qualified employee hired.
- Expensing of certain depreciable property
- The ability to carry-forward for up to 15 years 100% of net operating losses. In addition, lenders to zone businesses may receive a net interest deduction for personal income tax and corporation franchise and income tax purposes and sales tax credits may be claimed by enterprise zone business for purchases of qualified machinery and machinery parts.
These new zones will replace zones scheduled to expire over the next several months. Each zone
designation is in effect for 15 years. The new zones include the following cities and counties: Arvin, Calexico, Coachello, Compton, Delano, Eureka, Fresno, Fresno County, Long Beach, Los Angeles-Central/Hollywood, Merced, North Sacramento, Oroville, Pasadena, Richmond, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Clarita, Shasta, Southgate/Lynwood, and Yuba Sutter.
